Be Cardinal Green

Sustainable Stanford's Cardinal Green conservation campaigns provide a campus-wide opportunity for individuals to be a part of sustainable Stanford throughout the year.  Students, staff and faculty can directly contribute to sustainability efforts by participating in Cardinal Green campaigns - and earn prizes and recognition in the process! Learn more about how you can be Cardinal Green below:

Cardinal Green Buildings

Each fall-winter, the Cardinal Green Buildings campaign empowers faculty, staff and students to directly contribute to energy conservation efforts within campus buildings.  Through simple energy-saving changes and the 2-week energy curtailment during winter break, the campus community helps save thousands of dollars in energy costs and avoids nearly 1,000 metric tons of CO2

Recyclemania – We Recycle. Stanford Wins.

Recyclemania is an annual 8-week competition between colleges and universities that promotes recycling and waste minimization.

Make Every Day Earth Day at Stanford.

Earth Day presents an opportunity to reflect on sustainability as a core value, as well as the integral role we each play in making that vision a reality.

Water Wise – Tell Your Water Tale

The Water Wise campaign encourages the Stanford community to reduce water usage through a series of behavioral shifts.

Smart Buys – One Less, Save More

One Less, Save More challenges faculty and staff to practice sustainable purchasing habits that minimize negative impacts on the environment.

“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it is the only means.”

“Every student has a role in the stability of our future. It is this ‘niche’ that grounds our position in what we can do personally for the sustainability of our communities, a niche that begins and evolves here on campus.”
— David Geeter II
Co-President, Students for a Sustainable Stanford
“Students can play a major role in promoting sustainability at Stanford. Since we both live and work on campus, every aspect of our daily lives and behavior can have some impact on campus sustainability.”
